New Compilation From Ed Banger Records

The famous French label Ed Banger, home of such low-key acts as Justice, SebastiAn, Uffie, Cassius or Mr Oizo has launched its latest compilation mixed by Busy P & Dj Medhi : "Let The Children Techno".
Tracklist includes a wide variety of artists, most of them in short one-sided tracks which means the album could ultimately be more suited for mixing purpose than for home listening.
As the stickers says on the cover "A brand new compilation of all fresh and unreleased music down and up-tempo,love and dub-step, warm and cold-beats and more international than Jesus.Just like the season."
You'll surely find something of your taste in there but expect a lot more down's than up's.Beyond that, first SebastiAn debut (Total) is scheduled for May 2011 while Justice second studio album's first single ("Civilization") is set to be released on April 4.
Quite a frenzy for Pedro Winter in 2011!

16 Best Albums of 2010

Well, at least those that deserve in my eyes some special attention in the end of the year perspective.Totally subjective criteria indeed.

1.Daft Punk - Tron Legacy Soundtrack

A Soundtrack , not a studio album for the french duo but what can i say, i love Daft Punk and i love Hans Zimmer and for December i got them both in the Tron Legacy (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack).

2.James Holden - Dj Kicks

James Holden never disappoint in terms of mix compilation.Since his 'At The Controls' in 2006 that guy has my infinite respect. This dj kicks mix is more slow pace and kind of weird at first but after a few listens you begin to fully appreciate what was done here.Gratz.

3.Agoria - Balance 016

New installement of Balance by Agoria is also a reminder of 2010 electronic music : slower, more thoughtful and closer than ever to other genres.Listen to 'Emilia Torrini - Gun' to see what i'm talking about.

4.Ewan Pearson - We Are Proud Of Our Choices

One of the sweetest and smoothly electronic ballad of the year.

5.Seth Troxler -Boogy Bytes Vol.05

Well that one cames early in 2010 but i had listen to it many times.Partly because the intro was such a good party mood inducer with Dinky's satirical lyrics."Don't try to act smart, quit trying to be big"
(horrible sound)

6.We Have Band - WHB

Nice short electro-pop album.Need to see them live to be more enthusiastic but 'Hero Knows" is a perfect ending tune for anything.

7.Groove Armada - Black Light

You could ask what is electro in that synth-rock loud waves of riffs and melodies. But yeah there is definitely something of the 80's here but in a good way.Two vocals : one female (and good) one male (hmmm...) alternatively on each tracks. One sure thing : listen to it very loud or don't.

8.The Chemical Brothers - Further

Talk about 'back to the roots".Weird 7h album for 'Les Freres Chimiques'.Lots of good stuff , Escape Velocity is quite the hit for me but unfortunately his length (11'56) cannot be compromise in a single 3'mn radio edit. We'll wait for the remixes.

9.Caribou - Swim

It's the hype of the season; Caribou trust reviews and made first 2010 album in the Resident Advisor Selection. As it is quite good, i think it may be overrated.

10.Underworld - Barking Deluxe

Well that's my weak point, i deeply discover electronic music with them and i can't avoid put their 6th studio album, especially when it has good reviews.Classic big trancey anthem but really find 'Moon In Water' unique and enjoyable repeatedly.

11.Bot'Ox - Babylon By Car

That's french, that's a melting pot of rock/electronic genres and that's awesome; that is all you need to know.

12.Michael Mayer - Immer 3

If you don't know Michael Mayer and his hugely acclaimed first Immer mix compilation then you know what you need to do.This modern iteration keeps the feeling of a soft cotton pop candy environment with a large touch of Mayer's usual melancholia. And no it's not placed here because of the Charlotte Gainsbourg remix by Superpitcher (really ? yeah seriously!)

13.Susumu Yokota - Kaleidoscope

Of course an ambient album is not recommended if you're not used to those long repetitive loops of infinite echoes and sound patterns. But 'Her Feminineness' , a track by an unknown Japanese producer with a loop of European church bells is worth the effort.

14.Sebastian Mullaert aka Minilogue - WaWuWe

2 Mixed Cd's from one of the duo behind Minilogue. And that does what you expect : it's deep, really deep, progressive, well mixed and perfect for home listening in a rainy day.

15.Apparat - Dj-Kicks

Apparat is talented, that we all agree. But i think his Dj Kicks is going in too many ways too many times. It's still very good with a selection of fine surprising tunes.A bit demanding.

16.Pantha Du Prince - Black Noise

I needed a 16th and Pantha Du Prince second album is absolutely well crafted and charming.Like a sorceress spell.

That's all folks.Next coming is Xmas Mix post.
Happy New Year!

Schyzophrenia Party II

Anarkhan - Schyzophrenia Mix by Anarkhan

So what's up ?

Hey guys.Been a while since last entry, "been there done that", blah blah blah....So i've a couple of things going on here in the near future.First i'll upload mixes from the Schyzophrenia Party, beginning today with the smoothly sweet electronic candy that i personally enjoy and in the near future the second part which is more of a dancefloor-electro rock-lol tunes set.
I also have an ongoing project featuring more ambient and deep aspect of influences.I'm starting to use Ableton (for better or for worse) and maybe will includes more editing than previous stuff.Furthermore i'm collecting some stuff to try another work with more dark 80's / electro (as Anthony Rother Electro) sound that should hit the road in late November/early December if i'm lucky.Besides i'm getting a large plate of new stuff as the year ends and will probably go in a frenzy furious rush mode of getting everything from the "50 best 2010 compilations/albums/singles" articles we'll soon see everywhere. So here we go!

(Picture )

Schyzophrenia Party

This is another commercial break :

2 sets. One electro synth/progressive-house oriented (say Principles of Geometry,Extrawelt and Moonbeam) and one for the late-night electro blog-house/rock remixes mood (MGMT,Yuksek,Wolfmother).

Thanks to GraphicalInk for the design.

[Label :005:]THISISNOTANEXIT

Well, it's been a while since i've been introducing a record label here.So i will fulfill my duty with this obscure, extravagant but very enlightening one.

As their facebook page says : "Thisisnotanexit Records is the cult UK independent record label inspired by David Lynch, William Burroughs, Guy Debord and Factory." so you know already that is not gonna be your typical dancefloor-big-kick-ass-electro-tuna-oriented record label.
Sounds more like a reminiscence of a underground post-punk scene or an early surrealist avant-garde movement. And well, the fist compilation they released is called :

THISISNOTANEXIT - Manifesto # 1

This is definitely that one you need to get if you want to discover some of the best tracks they produced because the tracklist is very diversified and with names like "Pand City Band" you sure as hell want to take a spin with them.

Chapter One - Unmixed
01. Detachments - Messages
02. Brain Machine - Pulsations
03. Professor Genius - A Jean Giraud 5
04. Panda City Band - Wet Journey
05. Naum Gabo - Like Crystalline
06. Spectral Empire - Lift Shaft
07. Pink Stallone - Vlad
08. Night Plane - Let The Right One In
09. Hatchback - Jetlag
10. Moscow - Boson
11. Young Monday - Zaire
12. Weird Tapes - The Walking Dead
13. The Dark Esquire - What You Need
14. Parallels - Ultralight
15. They Came From The Stars, I Saw Them - Rabbit Seal Monkey

Chapter Two - Mixed by Simon A. Carr
01. Spectral Empire - Innerfearence (Chateau Flight Remix)
02. Hatchback - White Diamond (Prins Thomas Miks Del 1 & 2)
03. Brain Machine - Heaven 8
04. Detachments - Fear No Fear
05. Naum Gabo - Pictur (Joakim Remix)
06. Club Silencio - Turpe Traxx (Sankt Goran Remix)
07. They Came From The Stars, I Saw Them - Moon Song (Serge Santiago Totally Different Mix)
08. Detachments - Circles (King Of Town Remix)
09. Parallels - Midnight Voices
10. Professor Genius - A Jean Giraud 1 (Brennan Green Version)
11. They Came From The Stars, I Saw Them - Moon Song (The Gospel According To Mung 2012 Live At The Hacienda Version)

"Whether the compilation is indulging the label's more overtly demanding and uncompromising side or its friendly, more immediate tendencies, the generally tense surrounding created by such diversity and contrasts is what makes the entire proposition an edgy and constantly unpredictable listen. Manifesto #1 is a manifesto indeed."

(Resident Advisor)

None of the names should ring a bell, but i assure you some are really excellent.I, for myself, can listen to the remix of They Came From The Stars I Saw Them (what a mouthful!) by King Of Town over and over again (and so do you) :

Lastly, there is a bunch of videos here, so go give it a try!

5 Tracks from the Tron Legacy Soundtrack

We already talked about these Daft Punk-related news a couple of months ago here and here (remember the Cryda Luv remix ?).
A new trailer has coming up for Tron Legacy as the comic-con madness is actually going on.You can watch it here :

But, most important, you can listen to bits of the new Daft Punk soundtrack on the official website.5 tracks are available right now but it's not a very user-friendly interface (no really, it's not) so you can listen to it on youtube :

or you can download them in mp3 here :

DOWNLOAD
(could be removed so don't wait too long)

As it sounds yet really great, i think they might be some loop hiding the full potential of these songs without a single beat. We'll see in the next future if climax peak will be reached as the soundtrack reveal itself to go darker and dafter.

Selections (aka Summer Mix)

We're halfway through 2010, and I've been "collecting"number of this year albums and singles.I selected some of the best to present you in a short mix.I have a thing for obsessive hypnotic melodies you could say, those ones that you could compare to hypnagogic hallucinations. There is no "Gazebo" though this year and it's a shame i couldn't put it in the playlist one more time :)
Check the tracklist (only Ladytron is from 2008) and other info after the jump :

Tracklist :

01.Black Dog - Delay 9
02.Pantha Du Prince - Stick To My Side (Walls Version)
03.Ripperton - Sandbox
04.Thomas Fehlmann - Permanent Touch
05.Tensnake - Coma Cat
06.Estroe - Contradicte
07.Christian Smith - Cinnamon
08.Ricardo Tobar - Mi Pieza Esta Llena De Cosas (Max Cooper Remix)
09.Technasia - Music To Watch The City Lights Late At Night
10.Robert Babicz - Dark Flower (Fever Mix)
11.Booka Shade - Regenerate
12.Gui Boratto - Azzura (It's Not The Same Version)
13.Deetron - Collide
14.Moonbeam - Tiger
15.Ladytron - Ghosts (Toxic Avenger Remix)

(Thanks to Graphical Ink for the stunning cover, you can follow her on twitter)

Did you know that ?

Did you know The XX were playing the awesome-über-allmighty-crystal clear melody from Bronski Beat's Smalltown Boy as a introduction (that works very well) of Infinity ?

Well, here's a few examples, and if you already seen them live it's worth listening to it again as you can't get sick of this :

And here's the original so-so-80's video :

The pattern of this track has been reused in many songs with random success. An unoriginal & lazy techno cover by Supermode still sounds good just by copying and pasting the melody into a 4/4 cheapy club rhythmic :

A cover by Paradise Lost that greatly synthesize with their own sound the core of the original track :

You can hear it at the beginning of this 1993 mega-dance-lol track from Real McCoy :

Well i did listen to the next one million times, and i never saw the obvious melody in a pitch-down robovocoder style (starts a 1'34).Amazing Daft Punk Stuff :

Really there is a ton of it.You can read more about it in the wikipedia link here.
So, which one do you prefer ?
